Dee and Larry Congress

In 1981, Larry Congress moved his family from Peoria, Illinois to Southwest Florida. Breaking away from an established career in the jewelry industry, Larry became partners in a Bike and Boat rental business located at Casa Ybel Resort on Sanibel Island. Scot Congress soon joined him. Both father and son worked closely with the seasonal clientele at the resort and often told stories of Larry’s past occupation. In time it became clear to Larry that there was a need for a jeweler on the island. His wife Dee, an avid “sheller,” solidified this feeling when she requested Larry to create an olive shell in gold from a perfect one she found on the beach. This simple act was the start of the Sealife by Congress™ line.

In 1985, with only two showcases in the back of a shoe store at the Periwinkle Place shops, Larry, along with his wife Dee, proceeded to create, establish and grow the fine jewelry store Congress Jewelers is today.

periwinkle-fountainWhen you visit Congress Jewelers, you will find their son Scot and his wife, Melissa, carrying on the family business with the same love and passion as when it was created.

Scot and Melissa both are highly involved with the Sanibel and local community, as well as within the jewelry industry.
